KNPR Original Radio Production Wins National Recognition
Adam Burke, an independent radio producer and reporter,
received the Bronze World Medal for his series Be-Longing Las
Vegas at the 2009 New York Festivals Radio Programming & Promotion Awards.
Burke's award-winning series, which aired in 2008 on
Nevada Public Radio, was recognized in the category
of profiles/community portraits. Be-Longing Las
Vegas, underwritten by NV Energy, takes listeners into the lives of
people creating their own sense of community and making
connections in a region where it's well documented that
people feel isolated and disconnected. Segments of the
series, including ''Sucked Into the Tunnels Beneath Las
Vegas,'' in which Burke describes his journey into a homeless
encampment in the hidden matrix of storm drains under the
casinos, were featured on National Public Radio's Day to Day.
''For more than 50 years, New York Festivals has recognized
the world’s best work in advertising and programming, so this
honor for Adam Burke ranks among the most prestigious in
the industry,'' said Florence Rogers, president and general manger
of Nevada Public Radio. ''We’re extremely proud that Burke's
award-winning series aired on News 88.9 KNPR.''
Recently, NV Energy CEO Michael Yackira and Information
Technology & Telecommunications Executive for NV Energy and
Nevada Public Radio Board Member Susan Brennan joined independent producer Adam Burke
at Nevada Public Radio to accept the New York Festivals Award earned by the series Be-Longing Las
Vegas by Burke. The series was underwritten by NV Energy and is
archived online at www.knpr.org/.
